Amid five shark attacks on Long Island, New York, USA over the past two weeks, a man in his 40s tried to escape from a shark, revealing an anecdote.

On the 14th local time, foreign media such as the New York Post and ABC News reported the story of Shawn Donnelly, 41, who was attacked by a shark while riding a paddleboard on the beach.

"There has never been a moment in my life that scared me," Donnelly recalled.

"It was a calm sea with not a single fish in sight. Then there was a sudden 'bang'. That's when I knew the shark had pushed my paddleboard," he said.

After being bitten by a shark, Donnelly fell into the sea at a depth of 2m, and found the mottled fins of a sand snake in the water and hurriedly climbed onto the board.

Returning to the board, Donnelly learned that the shark was under the board, very close, and he quickly paddled to the shore to live.

Returning from a rowing to the shore, Donnelly found that his leg was bleeding only when he got out of the water and was quickly treated at a nearby hospital.

“I rowed like I was out of hell,” he said.

"The shark's prey is living close to the beach and attacking people on Long Island," said an imposing scientist at the New England Aquarium.

He added, "I hope that you do not enter the sea at dawn or sunset when sharks are likely to appear," he said.

Meanwhile, Long Island said it is taking measures, including deploying drones to catch sharks and increasing patrols of rescuers.
